My family loves a quick breakfast because we are usually on-the-go. I love breakfast sandwiches but they are expensive and you don’t know what goes into them. I have the solution! Make your own. I found a tasty buttermilk biscuit recipe in The American Girls Cookbook (Addy’s version). Those cookbooks are awesome. The recipes are easy and you learn something! My kids love helping and we rent the books from the library! It was easy and cheap to make 12 buttermilk biscuits. Then you can just make add some eggs, cheese, whatever you want. You’ll have hearty breakfast sandwiches that are both good for your tummy and your wallet.
When I was pregnant with my daughter, my husband and I ate take-out probably 4 times a week. I was tired and nauseated all the time. I really couldn’t have cared less about what I made for dinner. This was one of my biggest mistakes and a complete money-waster. The first thing I did when we started saving more money was create a meal planning chart. It saved me time since I wasn’t pressed to figure out a meal that day and still wonder if I actually had time to make it. It saved money since I used the stuff I already bought and it saved our waistlines since I was trying out new recipes that focused on healthy foods.
Ice cream is one of my favorite desserts but if you remember my resolutions post, I am trying to get to a healthy weight. I’ve been doing pretty well with my cravings but sometimes I get an incurable sweet tooth. I refuse to pay more than $2 per carton for ice cream and I am not a fan of all the ‘healthier’ varieties either. Well, I found the solution to my dilemma. Frozen bananas with Brookside Dark Chocolate Crunchy Clusters!
I love planning quick meals for my family that don’t require a ton of prep or time. Call me lazy if you must but sometimes, I just don’t have the time or energy to create a culinary masterpiece. For said times, I like to pick up a Campbell’s product to help me prepare a delicious dinner for my family that won’t break my budget. This box arrived for me and I felt like I hit the Campbell’s lottery!
I used to be a Snack Girl follower a long time ago. I ended up following her on twitter and started reading her blog. Then sadly to say, I lost interest. Lisa Cain tries very hard to be funny and falls flat. I just wasn’t seeing the allure. However, some of her recipes were tasty and pretty easy. So when I saw that she published a cookbook, I was willing to give it a go. I also had high hopes since, like I said before, I really enjoyed her healthy recipes.
One thing I really can’t give up is my dishwasher. We have two young kids and we use that thing like crazy. I throw just about everything in there too. I sanitize our toothbrushes, clean sponges, you name it, I’ve tried washing it in dishwasher. I try to use everything to my advantage, dishwasher included. Those liquid detergents really add up though. Even with coupons, I can’t get the cost as low as I would like. I was reading our local newspaper the other day and I came across a recipe for homemade dishwasher detergent. I had most of the ingredients so I decided to give it a go! It was so easy to make and you only need a tablespoon of mix each time! I’m hooked. I really don’t notice a difference between this and the expensive stuff either! It’s so much cheaper to make and it’s non-toxic! I really hope you give it a try.
