Homemade Chocolate Almond Milk & Giveaway!
My husband is on a low carb diet and it’s challenging at times. I love carbs. I wish there was an all-carb diet but we can’t live in a perfect world, now can we? Two things that my husband misses the most are milk and sweet stuff. I feel bad that we can’t always buy the carb smart ice cream so I thought I would give this almond milk a try. I used the Vita Nut Milk Bag. It came with an e-book with tons of recipes to make with your bag! It’s also tear-resistant, non-clogging and has a rounded bottom so there’s no waste! It doesn’t get moldy either, when you follow the instructions on cleaning it.
I wanted to see if it was worth the time, effort and cost to make my own almond milk since you can also buy the ready made stuff in the store. I spent about $7 buying the supplies but I have a ton of cocoa left over and about 1/2 cup of the almonds left. I already had the other ingredients. It’s not hard to make. It just takes some planning since the almonds have to soak for 12-24 hours first and since it takes a bit of work.
Homemade Chocolate Almond Milk
1 cup pure almonds, soaked in water for 12-24 hours
1/4 cup cocoa powder, unsweetened
3 1/2 cups cold water
1 tablespoon vanilla
sweetener to taste, I used 2 packets of Truvia
pinch of salt
Remember to soak your almonds for 12-14 hours. Drain and rinse very well. Put the almonds into a blender and add the rest of your ingredients.
Blend on high until it looks milky. Put your bag over top a large bowl and pour in the almond mixture.
Then gently work the mixture to the bottom of the bag, while squeezing the bag.
Take the milk in the bowl and put in an airtight container, in the fridge. It should make about 4 cups and keep for about 5 days. Enjoy!
It was pretty tasty and I think my husband will like it as a treat. I thought this was worth the money since I can add my own sweetener and I know exactly what’s in it. I also have most of the ingredients now and I only have to buy almonds. This bag is awesome! I can use it for so many other things too! I can make my own juice or cold press coffee. I can make my own cheese (I’m going to attempt it). The bag pretty much pays for itself.

I would make almond milk. I’ve always wanted to try it, but I usually end up just buying it at the grocery store.
Has this been kid tested yet? I’d like to hear the verdict from a short person. They are soooo honest!
Great idea! I will give the kids some soon! My son is allergic to cows milk so this would be a great alternative!
I’ve tried making almond milk before, but used a food processor. It was okay, but I found that it separated easily. Will have to try with a blender next time! I’ve also tasted almond milk made with a Vitamix and that tasted amazing! I like the idea of chocolate almond milk… Yum!
Beware, Sara. It does separate easily this way too. I hope you try it and let me know what you think!
Wow! I’ve never tried making it myself & I stopped buying ones at the store due to the chemicals they add. This is really cool!
Totally awesome that you made your own Almond Milk! I want to try this out, sounds fun. I love buying it, never thought to make my own!
Chocolate almond milk is something we purchase at the store every week. Looking forward to trying it myself! The bag looks great to use with cheese and to strain yogurt, I use cheesecloth now but it can be tricky to keep the edges together. Will buy one if I don’t win it first 😉
I can’t wait to use the bag for other things too! Cheese is definitely on my list!
I always thought I needed a vitamix to make my own almond milk! And we go through a lot!! 🙂
You should try this, Carrie! It wasn’t too time-consuming and less chemicals!
