Mindy Kaling Book Review
I love Mindy Kaling. I like the fact that she looks and acts like a normal person and isn’t afraid to make fun of herself. I love her show, The Mindy Project, and I watch it as often as I can. I can even see a lot of similarities between things from her life and things on the show.
I was chomping at the bit to read Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me and Other Concerns. It was on my Goodreads list for awhile and I have been plotting to get it since it came out! When Birchbox picked it as a giveaway for their book club, I was ecstatic! I was obsessively checking all the entries and talking to my Birchbox tweeps (twitter friends) about it to see if anyone had heard anything regarding who won. Lo and behold, I won a copy to review!
I had to include the back cover because that photo of Mini Mindy is so cute. It reminds me of when I was a kid and was never asked to sit at the ‘cool’ lunch table.
I can see why it was a New York Times bestseller because it’s hilarious and it really has it’s strong points. However, I just can’t seem to get through it. That’s right. No matter how many times I sit down to read it, it feels never-ending. I don’t know what the problem is. I enjoy it while I’m reading it but it really isn’t one of those ‘can’t put it down’ books. I am going to persevere because it’s not a 400 page novel or anything. Plus, I hate giving up on a book without finishing. So far, I think I would give this book 3 out of 5 stars.
I was recently discussing it with a friend of mine and she said the same thing (without me baiting her, even!). If you aren’t a fan of humorous non-fictional essays, I would skip this one. I would definitely hang out with Mindy, I just wouldn’t want to be her proof-reader.
Have you read Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? What did you think?

Hey this is Kyrandia from 43Things. I hope you’re doing well! I guess we can communicate on here since they finally closed down 43Things. Anyway, I read Mindy Kaling’s book as a part of my A-Z book challenge that I was doing on 43Things and I didn’t really like the book either. I thought she was really self-absorbed and I don’t know how far you got but there were chapters at the end where she was doing nothing but showing selfies she had taken on her cell phone and talking about the pictures. It was like she really had nothing to say so I don’t know why she wrote a book. I was disappointed and I would say there’s no need to waste your time forcing yourself to get through it if you don’t like it because anything she says worthwhile at the beginning is all that she has to say; the book peters out after that.
Hello! I am so glad you commented! I was telling my husband how I really miss 43 things and the people. I was even talking about how I miss our conversations. How funny! Thanks for your review of the book too. I didn’t get as far as the selfies (thankfully. haha!). I think I was in the chapter about The Office.
