My husband is on a low carb diet and sometimes that and the Paleo diet go hand in hand. The Paleo Chef By Pete Evans is not one of those times. However, I’m not going to denigrate the book based on that statement alone.
I love the photography in the cookbook and the recipes sound absolutely amazing. However, most of these ingredients would require a special (not to mention costly) trip to the store for us. Plus, having two young children on top of that, I can’t see The Paleo Chef keeping a permanent place in our family meal plan.
While the recipes are visually beautiful and seem relatively painless to make, I just can’t get past all the extra ingredients that I would be forced to purchase. I’ve heard that you can do the Paleo diet on a budget and I am in no way knocking the diet or Mr. Evans’ cooking for the matter. It’s just doesn’t work for my family.
Recipes like Grilled Wild Salmon, Raw Zucchini Lasagna, and Lamb Meatballs grace the pages and if I had a bigger food budget, I would definitely go for it! I liked how he added a little introduction about each recipe as well. So, all in all, a beautifully done cookbook. Not for the budget conscious though.
